Hello I'm Cathy

I have been a practicing Counsellor since 2017, prior to this I worked in Customer Services as a Team Manager where my role consisted of managing a customer service team, I learnt a lot about myself whilst in this role and realised that my personality seemed to bring out the best in people, because rather than 'managing' them I worked alongside them, I empathised with them when they were struggling and saw them for the individuals they were.

I decided to explore becoming a counsellor after realising that I enjoyed listening to others and helping them to find the solutions to their problems. After 5years of training I qualified in 2019.  Whilst on placement in 2017 - 2019 I worked at a secondary school counselling children aged 14yrs over and I also worked at a Hospice offering Bereavement counselling support to families who had experienced natural deaths, deaths from suicide or sudden deaths.  I really enjoyed the work that I did and was offered a job at the hospice when I qualified, I now continue to offer support to families and also patients as a sessional worker.  I also support Police Officers, Police staff and Fire personnel.  My training qualification is in Person Centred counselling and I am a Level 5 therapist, I also hold a certificate in EMDR which is mainly used when working with trauma.  When we work together I will use my person centred approach as the foundation for our time together but will also use other techniques such as CBT to explore your thoughts and behaviours.    I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). This is the governing body for counsellors and psychotherapists.

Through personal bereavements I have experienced both with natural deaths and by suicide in my own family I can support you leaving you safe in the knowledge that I do understand, I know what it is like to blame yourself, to feel lonely, to experience the loss of a parent, sibling or other close person.
